SARSAT Inhibit Schedules
NOAA Profiler Network (NPN) radar systems operate using an
experimental frequency license at 404.37 MHz. The Search and
Rescue Satellites (SARSAT) have a beacon frequency of 406
MHz. To prevent the 404 MHz radars from causing any RF
interference with SARSAT, all 404 MHz radars follow a SARSAT
turn-off schedule that disables RF transmission whenever an
operational SARSAT vehicle is passing overhead.
449 MHz Profilers do not
interfere with SARSAT and therefore, are not required to
turn-off for satellite passes. However, the version of
firmware currently used at these 449 MHz sites does
require a syntactically correct turn-off schedule to keep
the transmitter on. The schedules provided for 449 MHz
profilers contain arbitrary turn-off values designed to
appease the firmware requirements, and still keep the
radar transmitting.
SARSAT vehicle orbital positions are updated and new turn-off
schedules are generated every Monday and Thursday. New
schedules are available for download by 7:00 (GMT) on Tuesday
and Friday.
Profiler turn-off schedules can be down loaded in text format
or in binary format (NPN specific). Text versions of the
schedules are downloaded and displayed on your browser
screen. Select Download Text to FTP a text version of
the turn-off schedule. To save the schedule information to a
file,
select File | SaveAs from
your browser menu, choose text format, and name the file
whatever you desire.

*** Note ***
Some browsers cache Web pages on disk and do
not automatically display page updates. When
downloading
a Text version of a
turn-off schedule, select
"Refresh" or
"Reload" after the schedule
is displayed on your screen to ensure the most
recent version of the schedule is displayed!

Binary versions of the schedules are specifically for use at
NPN profiler sites. Binary schedules can be downloaded from
this Web site, copied onto a floppy diskette (3.5 " 720K
format), and loaded onto a profiler by a technician during a
site visit. Select Download Bin to FTP a binary
version of the turn-off schedule.
Sites are divided into three groups,

Network Sites
NOAA 449 MHz Profiler
